FIFA Soccer 13 continues to improve the series, but just not as much as past versions have.

FIFA 13 continues the tradition of 'fixing' previous iterations by only a small degree, thankfully the sum-weight of these changes turns out to be quite a lot, making it a worthy pick up for fans of Football games.

This is the icing on the cake of a great generation of football games. FIFA 13 achieves excellence in almost everything: gameplay, modes, social elements and online experience.

When the teams hit the field and the game kicks off, there's little to choose between FIFA 13 and the latest PES. A wealth of online and offline game modes and a rich supply of extras, however, ensures that FIFA 13 picks up another trophy in the most closely contested virtual football season to date. Like a Manchester United team chasing its 20th league title or Gareth Bale charging at a frightened right back, EA Canada is showing no signs of slowing down in its pursuit of the perfect football sim.

The inclusion of surprisingly awesome Kinect features and extra in-game rewards offers new reasons to play and builds upon last year's solid foundation. Finally, the complete dribbling mechanics and First Touch Control dive into the gameplay equivalent of the "uncanny valley," offering an unrivaled sense of realism and unparalleled excitement.

    (platform: 360)
In tuning the defensive systems and the attacking AI, the development team has unlocked the potential that Fifa 12 only hinted at, creating a game that, at last, seems to invite improvisational play, a game in which your own skill as a player comes to the fore.

If you're one of those people who think that holding out for a few years until FIFA gets better and better is a good idea, stop right now. Get out of your homes and buy FIFA 13. It's an amazing experience that must be played at least once by every soccer fan. Everything you love from recent versions is bigger and better, from the look and the feel to the sound and the content; it's easily one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've ever had, and I'm sure it'll be for you to.

FIFA 13 is maybe close to FIFA 12. However, for EA Vancouver, the first one was an evolution when the second one was a revolution. The Canadian studios manage to improve the already good bases of the IP, especially the ones on which players were looking for improvements. In another way, FIFA 13 is a game you'll need to play for hours to discover all the details that make it the greatest football simulation game to date.

    (platform: PS3)
After years of carefully sculpting and expanding, EA finally managed to take the last hurdles. The goalie and the referee are near perfection and the AI has been much improved. This results in an incredibly realistic and dynamic game. Sometimes the pace is a little bit too fast, but with all the improvements that's easy to forgive. We get why Messi is on the cover this year; only the world's best footballer of the world's best team is worthy of the world's best football game.

With absolute minimal issues with gameplay, the deepest roster in any title to date, updated career and pro modes, and some of the most accurate player models, FIFA 13 is the best soccer game to date. If this were the World Cup, FIFA 13 would be hoisting the trophy.

FIFA will remain seated for another year on the throne of Soccer simulation.

    Vandal Online

    (platform: PS3)
FIFA 13 is the most realistic and complete football game available, full of content to keep us busy till the end of the season. It looks for imperfection in every match –when controlling the ball, shooting, passing, etc.– in order to bring an experience closer to real football, something that some players might not like, even though we consider it's a fresh addition to the gameplay. Once again, the football game we would recommend.

Last year's game featured major enhancements, and FIFA 13 is a disappointment in comparison. However, refined offensive controls, a brisker pace, and a focus on thoughtful, skillful play ultimately help this year's installment achieve an identity.

If you want 100mph exciting football, FIFA 13 won't let you down. It's got all the crash, bang, wallop excitement of the Premier League...with goal line clearances, overly physical tackles, barn-busting supershots, refereeing controversy, spawny deflections, comedy defending and more. For a $6.99 priced app, FIFA 13 delivers a stunning amount of soccer content that'll keep you busy for hours. It doesn't quite fit on the same level as its console brethren, but for a "footy" mobile experience, it definitely shows that EA Sports has still got it.

So FIFA 13 elicits less of a salivating exclamation, and more of a slow, knowing nod. One that gets more knowing as you discover how much it's been improved, in little, but significant, ways.

At the risk of sounding cliché, it's not hard to argue that FIFA 13 is a pitch perfect adaption of the world's sport. While that might be a bit extreme, the brand's dedication to tweaking game mechanics until they are perfect, seems to be shining through loud and clear.

Especially the new offense AI with its new pathing routines makes FIFA 13 worth buying. But also the other new features like First-Touch-Control and tactical free-kicks enhance the franchise's playability. Add the large variety of game modes and licenses and you get one of the best sports games on the market.

Take all the beauty of football, all its unpredictability and all emotions it carries, boil it down and what you get is roughly FIFA 13. It's the best, the richest simulation of football ever created. [12/2012, p.48]
  • 90

If it's more of the same you want, with a few extras, some more polish and updated player rosters, have no fear – FIFA 13 scores effortlessly on that front. There aren't a whole lot of huge changes during this run out, but the substitutions across each mode, plus some smart new diversions such as Skill Games, the great integration of live team updates and tightened mechanics, ensure that it stays on top of the table for another year.

FIFA 13 is irritating and painful yet wonderful and nuanced, just like the sport it so painstakingly emulates.
  • 90

    Eurogamer Sweden

    (platform: PS3)
Almost a perfect football game with a deep and very entertaining career mode, both on the pitch and on the sideline. A somewhat broken commentary track, at times weird AI and online modes that brings more hang-ups than joy stands in the way of a perfect score.
  • 90

    Eurogamer Portugal

    (platform: PS3)
It's unfair to say that FIFA 13 is only an expansion of last year's edition. This is a game vast in content and injects more realism to a gaming experience that already was quite authentic.
  • 90

    PlayStation LifeStyle

    (platform: PS3)
The changes to the game's offensive movement and realistic ball control provide a great balance to the already strong precision defending. If you are a fan of soccer or looking to become one, there is no better place to start than with FIFA 13.
  • 90

    Playstation Universe

    (platform: PS3)
EA Sports keeps its football/soccer franchise at the top with more realistic Match Days and gameplay in FIFA 13. The formula hasn't changed much, but the overall package is once again as good as it gets.
  • 90

    Digital Chumps

    (platform: PS3)
EA Canada hasn't created a new game with FIFA 13, rather they've improved the overall package from last year. More accurate controls, an even playing field amongst gamers, better visuals and more than a few worthwhile modes of play help to make this a solid release in the FIFA series.
  • 90

    Gamereactor Denmark

    (platform: PS3)
EA has outdone themselves once again and delivered perhaps the greatest soccer game of all time. If FIFA 12 broke all sales records for sports games, we can easily imagine FIFA 13 doing the very same thing.

There is just so much to like about this year's FIFA and the series is still making important improvements that justify the annual purchase. It's finally the game last year should have been, and although there are some niggling little issues, overall it feels like a solid simulation of the wonderful world game of soccer.

  • 90

    Console Monster

    (platform: 360)
Overall, FIFA 13 is EA's best football title to date. While there are a number of bugs that still need to be ironed out, there's enough content and improvements to the gameplay to justify a purchase. EA Sports have created a title that football fans will be playing up until the next season.

It doesn't need a hokey in-game marketplace where players can trade credits for uniforms in order to be better; such insecurity only cheapens the whole thing. FIFA 13 is a triumph when viewed on its core merits; its ability to excite and drive the player to new levels of skill and enjoyment through the age-old medium of football.

The player-on-player and player-on-ball interactions, along with the AI improvements, sell the look and feel of true human interaction on the pitch. This year's edition is bigger than ever. It features an almost ridiculous amount of game modes and licenses, everything packaged in a nice presentation. Several systems have been rehauled as well, such as the physics engine and the AI. It's just a shame that the players still feel a bit sluggish with too extreme shots and passes.

FIFA 13 demonstrates that virtual football in the hands of EA's Vancouver studio is getting closer and closer to perfection. The number of novelties and changes is a very pleasant surprise and should make the owners of 2012 edition want to buy the newest installment. The developers made sure that there will no boredom: frequent updates, additional challenges, many online tournaments and a complex career mode create an image of a complete sports game with tons of things to offer.

I couldn't wish for more. The faster pace really does wonders for FIFA 13. It might take a while until you get used to it, but that's a couple of hours well invested as you get much more dynamic, tense and unpredictable game of football.

By playing it safe, FIFA Soccer 13 lacks innovation but this latest installment has helped keep the series at the forefront of video realism that you're pretty darn close from watching a live match, which is something you can't say about other sporting video games.

More of an evolution than a revolution, indeed. But a major evolution nonetheless in terms of fun. With a revised collision engine, superb AI, and First Touch Control, FIFA 13 is superior to last year's edition in almost every way, topping the list of the best soccer games ever created.

FIFA 13 is also the most broadly appealing game EA Canada has ever produced in other ways. It's absolutely rammed with different ways into it, and it takes unprecedented advantage of its intimacy with the people who run the big leagues and own all the broadcast rights.

FIFA 13 left us with a bitter-sweet aftertaste. Some mistakes of the previous edition are corrected (the natural look of modes, the one-on-one duels in the field) and some new features were added, like the new game modes. But the EA devs have set the bar so high, that it's hard enough work to surpass their own work. [December 2012]

There are some annoyances--the physics engine feels like it's been overly tinkered, and the shortcomings of career mode's become apparent when you step out of Europe's top leagues. However, it succeeds at one key task that it sets out to do: render FIFA 12 obsolete. You can wear last year's jersey, but you won't want to play last year's game any longer.

Electronic Arts has marginally improved FIFA 13 to the point where it can safely be said that it is a better game than the series' debut on Nintendo 3DS, but there is still a lot of work to do in order to become the supreme football experience in the portable realm.

A very basic edition of a top-notch soccer (or football) game. Pick another version instead.

FIFA 13 for Wii is pretty much the same game we've seen last year, with updated logos and teams. What else can we say?

Soccer-Fans might be able to make friends with the clumsy controls and manage to earn virtual money in this quite interesting Career Mode.

FIFA 13 is by no means the most incompetent of football titles on the market, but it is certainly not a patch on Konami's revived Pro Evolution Soccer series. With a somewhat frustrating updated play mechanic and shoddy presentation it is bad enough. The fact that this is the exact same game as last year's FIFA 12 merely adds insult to injury.

FIFA's action on the attack and near the goal has always been subpar, but I've cut it some slack in the past due to upgrades and improvements in other areas. Not this year-this is as weak an effort as I've seen from FIFA in a decade, and the whole affair screams "Roster Update 2013" from the get-go.

A shamefully cynical 'update' that brings absolutely nothing new to the table and asks £30 for it. Stick with FIFA 12, it's only a tenner these days. Or save your money for FIFA 13 Wii U.
